The University of Milan Conference Centre—Palazzo Feltrinelli
While most conference sessions, keynote addresses, lunches, dinners, and morning coffee breaks will be held in the University of Milan Conference Centre, only a small number of conference participants can board there on the top floor and in the University of Milan annex, the Casa Bertolini down the street. Keynote speakers, conference organizers, graduate fellows, and award recipients had priority booking of the limited number of rooms available. Betsy Sargent, as Director for Hospitality and Logistics, maintains the room-assignment lists for those spaces; please email her directly at betsy.sargent@ualberta.ca if you want to check for any remaining availability in those locations.
Those with rooms assigned in the Palazzo Feltrinelli and Casa Bertolini will receive details about those bookings directly via email.
Other Accommodations
Meanwhile, the Tourist Association of Gargnano has provided a list of hotels within walking distance of the conference site. Most of these hotels are offering discounts for those attending the 13th International D. H. Lawrence Conference, so be sure to mention why you’re coming to Gargnano! See details below, with links to all hotel websites (virtually all of their websites provide English translations—just click on the Union Jack at the top of the screen).
In looking at maps of Gargnano online, please be careful to calculate altitude as you consider hotels beyond Gargnano—some may look relatively close, but are actually high above the town and accessible only by slow and winding mountain roads. If you plan to stay at a hotel further afield, allow plenty of time each day for traffic congestion getting to and from Gargnano, as well as parking difficulties in the town itself. Parking in Gargnano isn’t easy or inexpensive. Most hotels provide parking for their guests, either on-site or at a reduced rate in the town parking garage nearby; but locating parking for a full day if you’re not staying at a local hotel could be a challenge.

PLEASE NOTE: If price is no object, there are two additional hotels in Gargnano itself (no D. H. Lawrence Conference discount has been offered at these hotels). The Hotel Villa Giulia is a short walk from the conference site; the Grand Hotel a Villa Feltrinelli, north of town, is a bit of a hike (or swim—or a short boat ride!). The 5-star Lefay Resort is quite a drive (20 minutes or more up winding mountain roads).
